What about international calls?

You can use your SmileData bundle to make international calls to anywhere in the world. The tariff for international calls varies depending on the country you are calling. Please refer to the international call rates displayed in rate per second as well as the MBs that will be charged to your SmileData bundle.

Can I use my Unlimited bundle to make local and international voice calls on SmileVoice?

Unfortunately no. Offnet calls incur high charges for both you and Smile and therefore not feasible to provide Unlimited calls at this time. However, the newly launched SmileVoice bundle offers 330min and 1000SMS to any network anywhere via your 4G LTE phone or SmileVoice App for only Tsh10,000. It is the lowest call price in the market.

If I’m on a call using the SmileVoice App and I get another call on my 2G/3G network, will my call be disconnected or is there a call-waiting option?

If another call comes in, your SmileVoice App will notify you and you can choose which call to put on hold or disconnect.

Will I be billed twice if I make a call from my SmileVoice App over my Smile mobile 4G LTE internet?

No, you’re only charged once at the per-second call rate that’s charged to your SmileData bundle in MBs.

How expensive are international calls?

International calling is expensive, but our rates match other operators’ rates closely. You should be aware that international calls can use up hundreds of MBs, the equivalent value of MB will be calculated to exactly fit the number of seconds on the call and the tariff for the country. You will receive an SMS after each call to inform you of the total cost in Tanzanian shilling and MBs.

How are international calls charged?

International calls are charged per second and translated back into MBs to your data bundle. The equivalent MB rate to the calling tariff that applies is displayed on our website and you will receive an SMS after each call informing you how long the duration of your call was and what you were charged in MBs.

How much does it cost to make a call using SmileVoice?

SmileVoice calls are charged in MBs to your relevant SmileData bundle. The local effective call rate per second is also displayed to provide you with a comparison if your calls were to be charged in airtime and not data.

With which SmileData bundles can I use SmileVoice?

SmileVoice is available to all of our customers with an active SmileData Anytime, Night and Weekend or SmileLite bundle. Please refer to the SmileVoice terms of use.

If I buy a VoLTE handset, will I have the same Smile number for both my phone and the SmileVoice App?

Yes, when you get a call, all the SmileVoice-enabled devices connected to a data network at the time will ring. So, if you’ve activated SmileVoice on your Android phone as well as your VoLTE phone and both devices are connected to Smile’s 4G LTE network or another data service, both devices will ring.

What VoLTE handsets are available on the market?

Smile provides the latest Samsung S6 Edge VoLTE handsets, that you can purchase from your closest Smile shop.

What’s the difference between 3G and 4G voice calls?

The main difference you’ll experience is the superior level of clarity, quality and reliability when using SmileVoice over Smile’s mobile 4G LTE internet. Visit your nearest Smile shop for a demonstration.

What is SmileVoice?

SmileVoice is the latest innovation from Smile. With a VoLTE phone or our FREE SmileVoice App downloaded on your Android phone or Apple iPhone, you can make SuperClear, reliable voice and video calls to any number. Local calls are charged in MBs to your SmileData bundle. We also provide the effective local call rate per second to compare with other mobile voice call rates. Just connect to Smile’s SuperFast mobile 4G LTE internet (or any other data network) and make local and international calls using our SmileVoice App to any number, anywhere.

What happens when I go somewhere that Smile doesn’t have coverage?

Your SmileVoice App will work over any data network, so you can continue to make and receive calls. As we continue to expand our coverage you’ll be able to stay connected to the Smile 4G LTE network wherever you are.

How much does SmileVoice cost?

For a limited period all registered Smile customers who activate our SmileVoice App on their mobile get some FREE SmileVoice minutes. Once this free bundle of SmileVoice minutes is depleted you’ll pay very low local call rates, depending on the bundle size you have purchased.

Please refer to the SmileVoice pricing, which is charged in megabytes from your SmileData bundle. We also show you the local call rate per second, which compares very well with current market call rates.

You can also make international calls, so please refer to our international call rates.

Does SmileVoice offer a voicemail service?

SmileVoice doesn’t currently provide a voicemail service, however you’ll receive missed call notifications. Voicemail will become available in the near future.

Can anyone call me?

Yes, just give your registered Smile number to your family and friends and they can call you when your mobile is connected to Smile’s mobile 4G LTE internet or any other data network. Just press the green button.

Can I port from my GSM network to SmileVoice?

At the moment you can’t port your GSM network number to Smile. This will become available soon.

Can I just get SmileVoice and not SmileData?

Access to SmileVoice is dependent on your being an active Smile customer, which requires you to have an active SmileData bundle.

What’s the minimum speed for the best SmileVoice quality?

As long as you are on Smile’s 4G LTE network or have a good 3G / WiFi connection you can use SmileVoice.

Do I need to cap my speed to reduce data depletion?

No, SmileVoice uses a fixed amount of data per second of calling. Please see our published call rates.

Do I retain my Smile number if I lose my phone or SmileVoice App?

Yes, you’ll keep your registered Smile number.

If I have both a Smile SIM for data in my Mifi and the SmileVoice App on my mobile do I get separate numbers or just one?

You’ll only get one registered Smile number for one Smile SIM on which your friends and family can call you. This number is linked to the SmileVoice App on your mobile, where all calls and SMS messages will be routed.

If I’m using SmileVoice on another data network, will it affect the quality of my calls?

Yes, it might. We can only guarantee SuperClear voice and video calls made across the Smile 4G LTE network. Any calls made over other data networks are dependent on the quality of that network.

How do I get started with SmileVoice?

If you’re already a registered Smile customer, all you need to do is put a Smile SIM card into a compatible VoLTE phone or download our FREE SmileVoice App on your mobile from Google Play store or the Apple App Store.

If you’re not a registered Smile customer you’ll need to register with Smile and purchase a SmileData bundle that suits your needs. As soon as your Smile account is set up you’ll be able to download our SmileVoice App and use SmileVoice on your mobile.

What do I need to use SmileVoice?

To use SmileVoice you’ll need:

1. To be a registered Smile customer.

2. To have an active SmileData bundle.

3. To insert your Smile SIM card into your VoLTE phone OR download our FREE SmileVoice App on your Android phone or Apple iPhone.

I’m not a Smile customer – how do I get SmileVoice?

To get SmileVoice you’ll need to be a registered Smile customer and have an active SmileData bundle. Our Customer Care team is standing by to assist you, so please call us on 0662 100 100 or email customercare@smile.co.tz and we’ll call you back.

You’re welcome to visit any of our Smile shops to see a demonstration of SmileVoice or you can shop online and purchase a SmileData bundle and device, which will be delivered to your door.

I’m already a Smile customer, how do I get SmileVoice?

You don’t have to do anything. As a registered Smile customers you've already been provisioned for using SmileVoice. If you're not using a VoLTE phone to make calls on Smile's 4G LTE network, just download our FREE SmileVoice App on your Android phone or iPhone . As long as you have an active SmileData bundle you can start using SmileVoice as soon as you activate the SmileVoice App or inserted your Smile SIM card into your VoLTE phone. If you need any assistance, please speak to a Customer Care team member by calling 0662 100 100.

Is there a separate SmileVoice bundle I need to buy to use SmileVoice?

No. Smile offers you one flexible data bundle for SuperFast mobile internet and SuperClear, reliable voice and video calls, and SMSs. You can call anyone on any network, anytime, anywhere in Tanzania or internationally. SmileVoice is charged at the lowest local per second call rate translated back to MBs per minute from your active SmileData bundle. You can view the MB per minute call rate charged for SmileVoice, and if you want to know how much data you have left in your SmileData bundle just send a free SMS with "Y" to 343 or log in to MySmile to view your SmileData and SmileVoice usage.

What bundle must I buy to get SmileVoice?

SmileVoice is available on all SmileData bundles including Anytime, Night and Weekend and SmileLite. If you want your Smile number to become your primary number for calls then we recommend an Anytime SmileData bundle that gives you access to our mobile 4G LTE internet at any time of the day. You can also refer to the call rate per second next to the SmileData bundle to make your decision. The bigger the bundle you buy, the lower your SmileVoice calls cost.

Do I have to buy SmileVoice minutes?

No, with your one SmileData bundle you can use Smile’s SuperFast mobile 4G LTE internet as well as make SuperClear voice and video calls, and send SMSs from your mobile.

Where do I get the SmileVoice App?

You can download our FREE SmileVoice App on your mobile from the Apple App store or Google Play store. Just click on the app store on your mobile and search for SmileVoice, then download and install the SmileVoice App on your mobile.

How do I activate my SmileVoice App?

To activate the SmileVoice App, enter your registered Smile number, activation code and select the country in which you’re a customer.

How do I get an activation code?

All the information you need to use SmileVoice will be sent to you on your Smile-registered email once you’re a registered Smile customer. If you can’t find this information, just click on ‘get an activation code on your mobile to request an activation code. If you need any assistance the Smile Customer Care team is standing by on 0662 100 100.

What is my Smile number?

Your registered Smile number will be sent to you once you’re a registered Smile customer. If you’re unsure what your number is, call our friendly Customer Care team on 0662 100 100 for assistance.

Can I choose my Smile number?

Yes, you can. Just visit a Smile shop and ask the sales consultant to check if your preferred number is available and to activate it for you, or you can call our friendly Customer Care team 0662 100 100 and they’ll do their best to find the number you’re looking for, and activate it for you.

Will the SmileVoice App work on my mobile?

The SmileVoice App is compatible with Android mobiles and Apple iPhones, as well as VoLTE-enabled handsets.

If I have the SmileVoice App, do I still need a Smile account?

Yes, to use SmileVoice you need to be a registered, active Smile customer, which means that you must be a registered Smile customer and have purchased a SmileData bundle with a Smile SIM card and Mifi or Wi-Fi router.

You can then download our FREE SmileVoice App from the Google Play store or App store on your mobile and activate the service. You’ll receive all the necessary information that you need to use SmileVoice once you’re a registered Smile customer.

How do SmileVoice calls work?

You’ll experience SuperClear, reliable calls when using SmileVoice on your mobile. Remember that your mobile phone needs to be connected to the Smile 4G LTE network directly or via WiFi to your Smile mobile 4G LTE MiFi or Smile router OR any other data network.

You’ll receive the best voice quality when you connect via your Smile mobile 4G LTE internet.

Click on the SmileVoice App on your mobile phone and make a call to any number in the world. Due to the speed of the SuperFast Smile network, you’ll be able to experience great-quality video calls too.

How do I make a voice call?

Open the SmileVoice App, select your contact or insert a number on the keypad and press the green button to make a call.

How do I make a video call?

Select ‘Video call’ from the SmileVoice App and make your call. This is dependent on the recipient of the call having video-call capability on their mobile as well.

How do I send an SMS?

Just open ‘Messaging’ or ‘Messages’ (dependent on your Android handset or Apple iPhone) in the SmileVoice App and send your SMS.

How does SmileVoice work with my VoLTE-capable handset?

You can make voice calls over 4G LTE from a VoLTE-capable phone without the SmileVoice App. Just insert your Smile SIM into your handset and you can make calls while connected to Smile’s mobile 4G LTE internet. If you’re not using a VoLTE phone, you’ll need to have our SmileVoice App installed and activated on your handset to make calls across any other data network when you go outside Smile’s network coverage and want to make calls.

Does my VoLTE handset come with a warranty?

Yes, all mobile handsets from Smile includes the manufacturer’s warranty, which is dependent on the make of the handset.

What’s the difference between a VoLTE-capable handset and the SmileVoice App?

Very little – our SmileVoice App was created to enable all of our registered customers without a VoLTE-capable phone to enjoy SuperClear, reliable voice calls, video calls and SMSs. It’s another way we’re giving you more value from your SmileData bundle.

Can I make SmileVoice calls when my data has run out?

You need an active data bundle to make SmileVoice calls, because they’re charged at a MB-per-minute rate (charged per second) from your active SmileData bundle. If you’ve run out of data, but are still an active Smile customer, you’ll still be able to receive calls, but for making outgoing calls you will need to buy another SmileData bundle.

Can I use SmileVoice with SmileON?

SmileOn is a value-added data bundle and as this data is provided free of charge, SmileVoice isn’t included. However, anyone can call your registered Smile number, so you’ll still be able to receive calls.

How can I get a SmileVoice transaction or call history?

You can view the call history on your mobile in the SmileVoice App – just select ‘History’ on the App. To view how many calls you’ve made and how much data you’ve used for calls, just log in (or register) via MySmile from your mobile or PC.

Can I use my FREE SmileVoice minutes to call any network or internationally?

You can use your FREE SmileVoice minutes locally to call anyone, anywhere in Tanzania, but not internationally.

When I make a SmileVoice call when connected to another data network, how will my SmileVoice call be charged?

Your SmileVoice call rate per second will stay the same. Please note that you might incur additional data charges from the data provider that your mobile connects to.

If I buy a VoLTE handset, can my SmileVoice App be on a different handset?

Yes, you can download and activate the SmileVoice App on your Android mobile or Apple iPhone – they’re all connected to your Smile number.

If I make a SmileVoice call to another Smile customer who has no data left in their bundle, will they be able to receive the call?

Yes, their registered Smile number will stay active. Even when you run out of data you will still be able to receive calls.

Will I be charged when I receive a call?

No, anyone can call you from anywhere in Tanzania or in the world.
